Boxing The Wake

  1. Begin the boxing maneuver by lining up directly behind the tow plane in the high tow position.
    Landmarks
    • Centered behind the tow plane (tow rope is drawing a straight line through the center of the fuselage).
    • Tow plane's wheels on the horizon.

  2. Descend through the wake to the low tow position.
    Landmarks
    • Centered behind the tow plane (tow rope is drawing a straight line through the center of the fuselage).
    • Tow plane's horizontal stabilizer even with the wing strut attachment at the engine cowling.

  3. Climb back through the wake to the high tow position.

  4. Move out to the upper corner of the box.

    • Tow plane's tail wheel just outside the main wheel.
    • Tow plane's wheels on the horizon.

  5. Move down to the lower corner of the box.
    Landmarks
    • Tow plane's tail wheel just outside the main wheel.
    • Tow plane's horizontal stabilizer even with the wing strut attachment at the engine cowling.

  6. Move across to the other lower corner of the box, staying below the wake.

  7. Move up to the other upper corner of the box.
    Landmarks
    • Tow plane's tail wheel just outside the main wheel.

  8. Return to the high tow position, directly behind the tow plane.
